New Media

Over the last 20 years I have worked for numerous Blue Chip, New Media and Rich Media design agencies on many complex interactive media titles.

Using mainly Macromedia Director and Flash to realise these clients needs. Here are just a small selection of some of these successfully completed titles in the following areas:

Touch screen kiosk, On-line web game, E-learning, CD-ROM and Presentation

Touch screen kiosk.

The kiosk was developed for the Wright Experience in Kitty Hawk, Ohio, USA. The exhibition, included five interactive kiosks, celebrating the achievements of the Wright Brothers and the centennial of flight in December 2003.

Main technical achievment was to build an engine in Director to read in an XML file which pre-rendered all text with glossary links for rapid dynamic layout of the touch-screen interface including Flash animations and QuickTime video.

On-line web game.

Burger King's web site needed an interactive street-wise game to attract a younger audience. So a skateboarding game called Sk8 was developed

E-learning

The Science Museums "Making of the Modern World" web site explores the history of science from the Industrial Revolution to the present day using a series of questionnaires. One questionnaire on DNA & RNA involved the user dragging two test-tubes with these names on them over statements and then choosing which one related to the topic.

Main technical achievements were using XML files to define all the statements in the questionnaires to be voted on by the user which where stored in a PHP database so that museum staff could edit and update them without need to rebuild the flash movies.

CD-ROM

"Christmas Carol - The Movie" was a CD-ROM developed for schools to promote Illuminated Films animated version of Dickens - A Christmas Carol. The film was released in December 2001 and stars the voices of Simon Callow, Kate Winslet & Nicholas Cage. The CD-ROM provided primary school teachers and students with an interactive 'virtual tour' of the animation studios where the Christmas Carol - The Movie was made - giving pupils the chance to experiment with dialogue, storyboards, layout, animation and editing as well as meeting targets within the English and Literacy curriculum's.

Main technical achievements were developing a paint programme that could flood-fill images and then save them to the students hard drive. As well as a sound mixing desk for students to remix the movie's soundtrak.

Presentation

MGM required a presentation to demonstrate to all their VHS & DVD retailers throughout the UK the new season releases.

Main technical achievements were developing a series of behaviors to automate the animation on and off of text and images. This allowed easy and rapid development and editing of the presentation as client changes came in near to the deadline
